Books Are Fun Business Opportunity

Books are Fun is a company I worked for as an Independent Distributor in the late 1990's. It was a business opportunity of direct sales to businesses. At the time I was with them, they were owned by Reader's Digest. While doing research tonight for this blog I discovered that the original founder bought the company back. They still offer a business opportunity, don't really know if it works like it did when I was there.

It was a pretty simple concept. The company bought "lots" of books from publishers. The division I worked for then called on businesses & left a "sampling" of 10-14 books for employees to look over and order from. Then at a later pre-determined time, I went back to the business, collected money for the orders and delivered in the same step. The BIG draw was that most of the books sold for 80% less than retail. They also were always a selection of high quality general interest books that made great gifts for any book lover in the family. The company has a solid reputation and delivers on it's promises.

In the end, it turned out not to be exactly what I was looking for. Even with all the benefits it offered, it still was a "job". I had to keep a LARGE physical inventory, do the prospecting, delivering, bookkeeping, stocking etc. While "technically" I was self-employed, the reality was I had "bought" a job. No matter how hard I worked the business, if I wanted to take a week off, I didn't get paid. At the time I wasn't really sure what I was looking for, I just knew this wasn't it. That being said, if you are interested in a hands on type of business, this one is certainly worth a look. As for me I'll stay with my current plan of building a residual income.

Home Based Business: Lawn Care

This happens to be another Home Based Business that I have actually done. Some years ago my Brother-in-law and I worked in the Lawn Care Business. It was not too long after "3 Men & a Baby" had come out at the movies. So I thought a cool name would be "2 Men & a Mower". Cute, huh?! Anyway, for a Home Based Business it's not too bad.

Basically all you need is a mower. In our home based lawn care business we also had a weedeater and a blower. Many people already have these items (or have access to them) so start-up is rather minimal money wise. If you concentrate on small business and homeowners these beginning tools should be all you need in the beginning. As with all businesses, as you gain more clients you can get better equipment and hire employees to do the actual work. All in all it has many of the attributes of what I was looking for in a home business when I found Watkins.

When looking for a home based business, these are some of the things I look for:
  • Honest and ethical business
  • Low start-up cost
  • Uncomplicated procedures
  • Product of service many people need
The things that the home based lawn care business didn't have that Watkins does are:
  • a consumable product that people use on a daily basis
  • a method of building an ongoing incoming revenue stream even if you take time off from the business
  • the ability to build a business with "No Selling Required"
  • a turnkey proven business strategy and documentation for step-by-step business building
  • a "Free" website for building the business
  • "Free" online audios from top performers in the business who "teach" you the business at your own pace
There may be more ways that a Watkins Home Based Business is better than the lawn care business, but I think you probably get the idea. To find out if a Watkins home based business might be right for you, click here.
