Home Based Business: Stun Guns

This is one of the home based business opportunities I actually did for awhile. It had appeal to me on a couple of levels. First, I love electronic gadgets, if it makes noise or is fun & it's electronic: count me in. Secondly, I thought they were a useful product that would bring peace of mind to some people. Sounds good so far right. Well, here is "The rest of the story"! (my apologies to Paul Harvey)

This was pre-internet (as far as I knew anyway), so I found companies that sold these products "wholesale" from Biz Opp magazines. Notice that wholesale is in quotes. In reality, not so much. But be that as it may, I did actually manage to sell some. Mainly to my warm market. I was in sales (day job) at the time, so it was just part of my nature. Advertising or recruiting salesman to work for me never even occurred to me. Just as well I guess, since the product was not a consumable, you always had to find new customers. But that experience led me to appreciate the concept of a franchise. With a franchise you have a duplicatable proven formula for success. Which is why I'm now with Watkins, making money! :)

Home Business Attempt

DIY Home Business

When it comes to trying a home business, there are a few things that should be considered. Let's look at an idea I had for a home business that didn't make it (this was of course before Watkins).

While I still think the concept deserves some merit, as far as a home business goes there are definitely better options. My idea was simple, and relatively easy. To make and sell stencil t-shirts. Just required a computer, freezer paper (for the stencil), t-shirt & spray paint. A low cost easy home business if I ever saw one. I had no problem coming up with ideas (see shirt I made for my wife as an example). But with any home business, getting the product is not necessarily the issue. How to "market" the product is the issue. Never figured that one out. So now my wife has an exclusive "Limited Edition" t-shirt as the only product from this home business attempt. ;)

Home Business: Gold by the Inch

Home Business Opportunity: Golden

One of the "Golden" home business opportunities I've looked into is Gold. I first happened upon "Gold-by-the-Inch" at our local mall many years ago. Long, long before I had ever heard of Watkins. It appealed to me in the beginning on several levels.

First, it's pretty. Secondly, it's simple. The basic home business concept is this: You buy spools of "gold" chain (by gold I mean a cheap metal that's gold plated) set up wherever there are people. You then measure a custom fit length to fit your customers need (bracelet, necklace etc.) cut to proper length, put on clasp-collect your money and there you go. Quick simple home business.

The main drawback (vs. Watkins) is that you only earn what you sale. The potential for a residual income is not there. Let's say you pay your money for a booth at a craft show, bad weather comes in, just like that your out of business. All in all it's not necessarily a "bad" home business (start up is around $200) just was not what I was looking for.

Business Opportunity: Photo Blankets

Home Business Opportunity: Photo Blankets

One of the home business opportunities I considered before choosing Watkins, was Photo Blankets. There are many companies online that offer this as a home business (just google "photo blanket" to see what I mean.) As far as home business opportunities go, you could do worse. Below I'll try to share a little of my thought process and some of the reasons it originally appealed to me.

First off is vanity. Seriously, most of us like to see pictures of ourself (or family). Having made my living in photography in the past, I knew the power of images to make sales. That being said, when it comes to a home business opportunity; I wanted something that had potential for long term residual income. Also a product that was consumable (people buy, use up and buy again<>) was high on my list. It is hard enough to get sales the first time, but when virtually every sale is going to be a new customer....just not my cup of tea.

Now that's just me. If you like a trading hours for money type of proposition, this one would probably be fine. One of the Photo Blanket home business opportunities is offered for an initial $200 sign-up. Another point. I also wanted a home business opportunity that I could do part-time from home online without having to sell. Watkins ended up being the right choice for me. And @ $39.95 sign-up fee, turns out it's quite a bargain also. :)
